The most crucial mistake I see made with web design is:
All the content on the page, is about the owner of the page or business.
Now I may offend a few people with this next comment, but if you want to know the truth read on.
Your customers do not care about, who you are and what you have done.
Now I know the vast majority of people get emotionally attached to their web site being about them.
After all it represents the business that they have worked hard to build.
But your web site isn't about you it is about your customer.
And you need to get your message across to them quickly, when they arrive on your site.
What your customer new or returning wants to know is, how are you going to fix their problem.
That is what they come to your site looking for, a solution to their problem.
When you get your head around this concept, marketing to your customers becomes a whole lot easier.
Because it is all about, informing them exactly how you are going to solve their problems.
I know I go on and on about only having seven seconds to grab your customers attention.
But that is because it is an exceptionally important part of your web design.
You have to grab the attention,of the person coming to your site.
As quickly as possible, and guess what the best way to grab their attention is??
You guessed it, tell them how you are going to solve their problem.
Another very critical factor, of your web site is.
It needs to be very specific, to the ideal customer you are targeting.
You have to know exactly who you, are, you want to respond to your site.
Things like:
All these things affect how effectively, you can present your message to them.
If your product covers a range of users, lets say weight loss for instance.
Then you may need a number of feeder pages, (Ideally blogs like this one) to your main web site.
Split into a number of smaller markets like:
You should get the picture of what I am talking about by now.
If we tried to incorporate all three of these groups into one web page.
Then our web design and content would not be nearly as effective.
